Henry Rankin
Teacher of Music

With a wide repertoire of musical interest Henry composes, plays both classical and popular music, and leads his own quartet. He plays the violin, viola, trombone, piano and guitar.
Henry has been teaching since finishing his Masters at the Royal Northern College of Music alongside giving performances whether in theatre, chamber, orchestral or on TV with Aled Jones or appearing on the Graham Norton Show! For OEO Henry’s taught composition, worked with a student band and taught piano, guitar and the ukulele. Henry says the online works surprisingly well although the odd family pet joining in the lesson is always interesting! And as for teaching young children online, Henry says ‘A learning environment can be challenging in all sorts of ways and this will be different for each person. I think younger children can actually be more comfortable in a home environment.’
Henry studied Japanese for eight years at school and visited the country for the first time in February this year. He spent three weeks exploring medieval castles and shrines, sprawling cities and beautiful countryside and…’ I won’t ever forget the experience. I plan to spend more time in the country in the future.’
